Legal Question in Family Law in Utah
I met a woman who married an illegal. He has been cheating on her and has beaten her several times. She says she has been to the hospital with a broken jaw and was convicted for defending herself in the same fight (Shes a tiny woman, 120 lbs or so). They live in Utah and she claims they favor men. It is the Polygamy state so I could understand that. Is she better off to go to a different state and fight the charges and file for divorce?

Utah is not a polygamy state nor is any state in the United States. If she has been assaulted by her husband, she can very easily obtain a protective order keeping him away from her. If she wants a divorce, there's no reason why she shouldn't go ahead and file.
Utah is not a "polygamy state" She can get a protective order, and the perpetrator can and should be arrested and prosecuted. She should also seek a women's shelter for a safe place for her and any children.
