Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

parents home after they are deceased

I have been on the title and have paid on my parents home since 1985. My dad had to go into a hursing home and when he died they contacted me and said upon my mothers death I will owe $16,500 because I was not sole owner before my dad died. When he died I assumed the home in my name and financed it in 2007. Am I not legally the owner and not obligated to pay when my mom dies? I will not have that amount of money as the home is not appraised for enough for me to even pay it off. Please help if you can!!!

Check and see if the state has a lien on the house. If they do not have a lien, then you can attempt to deal with the State. If there is a lien, you will have to get that lien removed.
