Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

I just recently got a divorce. I had moved out of the home to my sisters house. I had to move a lot of my belongings to a storage unit. I didn't have enough room to move everything. He (my now ex husband) told me I could keep things in the garage until I found room. I called him to let him know I could stop by and pick them up. He said he had nothing left of mine. I reminded him he still had things of mine in the garage. He claims he got rid of it all. Can he get in trouble for getting rid of my belongings without my consent?

Yes, if he agreed to hold them for you. You may be able to sue in the divorce court or small claims court

A lot will depend on what your divorce decree says regarding the division of your personal property. If it says the property is divided and awarded to the parties as it's presently divided and in their possession, then it may be difficult for you to get anything. However, if you have evidence of an agreement that he would hold things for you, then you could take him to court to get your things back.
