What are my rights and what should I do?
I have a 4 year old neice whom has been bounced all over and beeen around drugs the first three years of her life. My motheer and her father has had her for the past threee years and I now have her and I want it to stay that way becaouse I know that bolth parents are useing perscription drugs to get high. The mother was court orderd to give her other child u[ for adoption and now wants this child. I want to do any thing I can to protect her as far as I know there is no cusody astablished for her and I would like to get full custody of her. I am married with 4 children and can give her the stable life she needs and deserves. What do I need to do or what can I even do? Please help me help my neice.!

File a petition with the juvenile court asking for legal guardianship. Birth mother and father will be notified. You can request that they be required to prove their parental worthiness. Often the court will first grant temporary custody while the parents are on 'probation.' If the parents prove they are clean, then they get the child. If they parents can't stay clean then the court can award permanent custody. You may call for a free consultation
