Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

Sole legal custody and school

If ex has sole legal custody does that mean my name cannot be on daughter's school registration card as the mom? Does it keep me from talking with teachers? Does it keep me from parent teacher conferences? Does it keep me from having lunch with her at school? Does it keep me from picking her up from school if she becomes ill? Does it keep me from joining PTA and volunteering at school functions? My understanding is sole legal allows the parent to make legal decisions (religious, education, medical), hair styles, choice of clothes, etc. How much can it limit me as a mom? I know I can't make legal decisions like if she needs special ed or something but what little everyday mom involvement? Thanks so much.

Re: Sole legal custody and school

You should still be able to be involved with your child, but cannot make decisions. Your ex should allow you to be involved, since any healthy involvement in your child's life is in the child's best interest.
