Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

My spouse had a stroke about 13 years ago. We were near divorce before that and I feel it has been a burden to take care of someone I no longer love, plus I work full-time. A friend told me that I could get a divorce and then he would be considered indigent and could get on medicaid. I do have a retirement plan through my work and my home is in my name only. I live in Utah. Can I do what my friend suggested? Please help, I don't want to have to give up the retirement I have worked so hard for.

Thanks

Your spouse may qualify for Medicaid but he will most certainly be awarded one half of your retirement, one half of the home's equity, regardless of in whose name it is titled, and, in all likelihood, you will probably end up paying him alimony.
