Step Mother's Rights

I am going to be a step mother soon and have already taken on many of the roles. I am wondering however if there is some place I can find the rights of step parents in Utah. I am wondering what I will be allowed to sign and whether I can take him to dr appt or to the hospital in emergencies. Of his mom and dad, I am the only one who can take the time off to do these things.

A step parent has no legal rights to a step child. If you are going to be a caregiver, get a notarized power of attorney from a parent.
