Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

Step parent adoption

My son's biological father has never been involved, and isn't even on the birth certificate. My husband of a little over a year is the only father my son knows and we want to get him adopted. How do we do this? How much will it cost? How long will it take? What do we need to do? Can we change his name before it is final so that he goes to school with the same last name as his parents?

Re: Step parent adoption

A step parent adoption in tne circumstances you have described should be fairly simple. The cost would be about $2000-2500 estimated. It will take about 3 months or so, depending on court schedules. You should tald to the school so they know what you are doing to avoid any confusion. Please call for a free consultation.
