Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

taxes

My soon to be husband just found out that he has a one year old daughter in washington, that he was never informed about till now. He now owes past due and current child support. We just had a brand new baby together three weeks ago, that we need to pay for. If we get married and file taxes together will they take all of our tax return? If so is there anyway I can file separately and claim the baby so that I can atleast get my tax return? That I plan on using for the hospital bill?

Re: taxes

You should file separately to make sure you keep at least your tax refund. Your finance should contact the State of Washington and work out a payment plan to pay the arrearages so his return does not get garnished.
