Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

Text Messages

My boyfriend has been saving text messages from his ex-wife as evidence for potential use in court in the future. His phone is full and we need to get the text messages out. Is there a service that we can use to transcribe these messages without comprimising their admisability in court? His inbox is too full and we need to empty out some of the messages.

Re: Text Messages

In my experience, simply transcribing what the text messages say doesn't necessarily mean they're accurate. The problem with simply typing up what the messages say is that the other party can argue that it was made up. One method I've used successfully with the courts is to have the client photograph or photocopy the telephone itself with the text message displayed on the screen. That way, it shows the phone number that sent the message, the date and the time.
