Legal Question in Family Law in Utah

un-married fathers rights and obligations

I would like to know what medical bills and responsibilities are to a father who is not married and what his rights are as far as getting a paternity test and visitation rights.

Re: un-married fathers rights and obligations

You will probably be liable for one half of the costs of the medical care and hospital which are not paid by her insurance (if any). You can file a lawsuit requesting determination of paternity, get a DNA test. You can also request visitation rights. HOWEVER - you and the mother should consider that it might be in the best interests of the baby that it be given a decent chance for a good life by placing it for adoption in a caring Two Parent home. Statistics show that babies raised without two committed parents are highly more likely to have all sorts of problems in comparision to children who are adopted out. Generally, unwed mothers have day care centers raise their kids - day care centers are not much more than kid corrals. In an adopted home, chances are that the baby will be raised by a stay at home mother and a father who will be involved in the baby's life every day - not just every other weekend (which is what you would get for visitation.) Think about the baby's needs, nor your selfish wants.
