Legal Question in Family Law in Utah
If $xxxx is written in a decree, can the respondent give me stocks? I was told this means Cash, and stocks need to be specified if thats what he wanted to do. This leaves me with a large capital gains tax which I have suggested he could now send, if he refuses to send cash as decreed. He refuses to do either.

If a Decree indicates that a specific dollar amount is to be paid, it is to be paid by cash, cashier's check or money order. It is not to be transferred by some other means such as property or stocks. You are correct that if that is what was intended, then the language in the decree should have or would have so indicated.
