Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Utah
broken apartment lease
My fiance and I got involved in a marketing business for wholesale fragrances, the people who go out in parking lots to sell perfume. We were promised that we would get our own office after completion of training. We moved to Oregon to open a business. We were under direct supervision by our regional manager in UT. He's like an advisor. Our business failed and we were moving back to UT to start over. He was moving someone into our office space in Oregon and into our apartment. The people he promised to move in did not, and we ended up breaking our lease when it was arranged that they take over. We quit the business and he did it just to spite us. Now we have collections after us for months of fees and back rent. We believe he is responsible and the company we worked for is not very reputable. We hold our regional manager responsible, he did not follow through with his end of the deal. Please tell me how I can pursue this in small claims, and if I have a winning case. All I want is for him to pay for our lease that fell through, cuz he didn't hold his end of the deal up.

Re: broken apartment lease
Sue him and the company for your losses arising from the broken promises. If you sue for less than $5000 you can file in small claims court, if more you file in District Court. The strength of your case depends on the language of any written agreements, and whether he specifically made you oral promises to which you and someone else can testify.
