Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Utah

Used car sale

I just sold a used vehicle last week. The buyer found a wheel hub that needed repairs costing $500. I was not aware of any repairs that needed to be done and just had it inspected three months ago. Should I be held responsible for these repairs? The buyer wants me to pay for them.

Re: Used car sale

If you had no knowledge of the problem and if you sold the car without making any promises as to its condition or sold it "as is", you are not liable.

If you promised that the car was in a certain state of condition, you might owe some or all of the money to repair. At a minimum the buyer has to give you notice of the problem, and if you are going to pay, you are entitled to get competitive bids - or repair it yourself. If you agree to pay, you should verify that the work was actually done on the car.
