Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Utah

Found treasure

I'm doing research for a book and want to make it as accurate as possible. If a person is on private property with permission to do research and finds hidden treasure on that property, who has legal claim to the treasure? If the treasure originates in a different country and has historical significance, does the other country have any claim to the treasure?

Re: Found treasure

A guest generally does not have rights to found treasure on another's property - in the US. You will have to do research in your foreign country to find out their law.
