Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Utah
I have an older car that I took to a dealership to have some work done. I made a point of saying I had limited funds to fix the car and was not going to go over $1,000 and to make sure they talked to me first to let me know what was wrong and to discuss how to best handle it. It started out great and I thought we were within the numbers I requested but once they were done the bill went up to almost $2700.00. I refused to pay that because I simply didn't have it and I was very clear with them not to go over $1,000. They are telling me they won't give my car back until I pay up and I'm fearful to give them anything because I have no trust with them now. Can they keep my car? This has been going on for almost 2 years now. I have tried to call and negotiate several times but they never call me back. They have left my car outside and it's not looking good.

You should take your case to small claims court.
