Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Utah

Repeated harassing phone calls. What should I do?

An employees ex-wife called my department to reach him. I was informed she would be calling trying to get him fired. They were not getting along and he didn't want to deal with her at work. The environment was un confidential for this conversations, I understood. His ex called for him every 5-10 min for 35 min at wich time I had the receptionist put her through to me. I told her that my employee was not available to take her call while he was at work. She insisted so I took down her number and spoke with my employee to see if he would call her and tell her not to call him here, he did. She continued to call and verbally harass several of my employees when they answered the phone. This behavior continued until I sent my him home to get a restraining order and get her to quit calling and disrupting. Both I and my employee had asked her not to call anymore. She continued to call. I began hanging up on her and instruced my employees not to answer the phone. Our Human Resources department claimed there is really nothing we can do. I find it unbelievable that there is no immediate course of action to stop this harassment. Is there something I or my company could have done or that we can do in the event it happens again?

Re: Repeated harassing phone calls. What should I do?

Sue her for damages arising from her interference with your work; also have the company seek a restraining order against her.
