Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Utah

I had a verbal agreement with Client A. Client A asked if i could transfer data from Computer A1, and B1 to Computer A2, and B2. I stated my fee is 175 per computer, and that i can do my best to transfer data, but cannot guarantee everything will make it over, i can make sure computer A2, and B2 are functioning properly, and that there are no errors, or issues. After completing required work specified in the verbal agreement Client A's Husband contacted me and expressed concern that all data was not there. I said both original hardrives are intact and nothing has been modified. I stated i could find some free time to come to his office and attempt to get all the data you need off of the old hardrive. After attempting for several hours, i was unsure as to what data the client was looking for and explained that i will leave my hardware at his office to finish finding the data, and when he is through to just return my stuff to me. a few weeks later Client A's husband came to my office and asked for me to come over and find the data again. i said i would be able to come over on a friday and see what i can do. that friday i had some plans with my family that i forgot. I notified the Client A's husband that i would be unable to make it that day. he than proceeded to call and say that if i did not either come over today or pay him back that he is going to sue me for not completing the job. as stated by the verbal contract made with Client "A" i did complete all work and even did extra work above the original verbal contract. Where do i stand in this situation?

You may be dealing with someone who is unreasonable. You may want to tell the client that you will remove all of the data that you transferred and return the computers into similar state as when you got them and give him a refund.

If you are sued you will need to respond to the lawsuit. It is very unlikely that the client will sue for such a small amount of money.
