Legal Question in Insurance Law in Utah
Insurance: Major soil erosion at foundation
I discovered that the soil around certain areas of my new home (5 yrs old) have completly eroded. I can see the ''under-side'' of the concrete stairs at my basement walkout. I am not sure what has caused this. There has been no flooding in my area. I am afraid to report this to my insurer-lest they say it is ''flood'' damage (for which I have no coverage) and drop my insurance, leaving me with a home loan problem and a huge debt that I cant even begin to imagine. I think it may be poor constrution but again, am not sure-can you please help me with some advice? Is this just covered, and I am being paranoid? Or, am I right not to report it? It seems like what insurance should be for to me but-Please help me with some advice
Thank you very much

Re: Insurance: Major soil erosion at foundation
Most likely this is subsistence due to poor compaction around your foundation, and is not uncommon. First contact the builder and ask him to investigate and repair. Second contact your insurance company to see if they will cover it. Your insurance will not likely drop you for this type of problem.
