Are insurance settlements available for public view?

Generally, no. However, there are a number of resources that publish personal injury and wrongful death settlements which are used in the legal community to compare cases in the negotiation and settlement of other claims. Those resources, however, don't usually identify any particular person or insurance company by name. Usually, when an insurance company settles with an injured party, one of the requirements of the settlement agreement is that the parties are not disclosed to the public and the terms of the settlement are to be kept confidential.
