Legal Question in Employment Law in Utah

On call for weekend coverage

i was wondering what laws their are for compensation for being on call on weekend coverage? the people that i work for want to rotate us craftspersons that are non exempt employees to be on call in case that they need something repaired on the weekend and be readily available to answer our phone and run to work if they need us when it is our turn.

also if they want us to carry a pager or company cell phone are there any laws about compansation for standing by your phone all weekend waiting for their call? thanks.

Re: On call for weekend coverage

You are entitled to pay, including overtime pay, for the time spent on company business. If you get a call, you go on the clock from the time of the call. You are probably not entitled to compensation just for carrying a phone or pager.
