Legal Question in Employment Law in Utah

Employer layoff

I recently had a three month job performance evaluation. It was a positive evaluation. At the evaluation I said I was not interested in long range work with this specific organization. I was asked to think about long term employment. I offered to work till the end of the year/Thanksgiving/6 weeks/2 weeks/ whatever the company needed. They asked me to work for 1 week. I was only given 1 week notice. Is this legal?

Thank you.

Re: Employer layoff

Yes. You are not entitled to any notice whatsoever. It is good practice for employees to notify employers because that can take some incovenience from an employer and shows that you are a thoughful employee. However, employers do not have to prove that they are thoughtful. Most do not give any notice of termination.
