Legal Question in Employment Law in Utah
In February of this year I discussed with
my manager that I intended to grow
dreadlocks.
She informed me that it should be fine
so long as they aren't "bright pink or too loud"
as she put it. At the beginning of march I
put them in. One week later I was called
into the general managers office to discuss
my dreads. During that meeting I had them
pulled back with my dread tube. He told me
to come back and let him see how
"presentable" I could make them.
So I did. And he said that it was fine an I
went back to work as usual. Directly after
the meeting they hired two people.
At the end of may I was called in again at
which point I was told that " if my skin was
black or we live in jamica" my dreads would
be fine and that they were taking me off the
schedule until I want to look "normal"
Also my manager in the meeting made it clear
To my general manager that the conversation
In which I approved my dreads "never happened"
Of course not right. Long story short.
I did everything right and was a model employee,
I approved getting dreads before and after
and... I want to know if I can do something about it?
