Legal Question in Employment Law in Utah
Forceful Termination
At my last job I was told by my Director that I had to find another job I wasn't working out. I have nothing in my file to say otherwise, no verbal or written warnings. I was told be her that if I didnt leave then we would have to go down the messy way and I wouldnt be able to save face and I wouldnt want to go down that road. My Director then stated in a meeting w/ 2 other employees that she was firing me/forcing me out, but she was doing it in a nice way, but if I was to look for another position with the company she wouldn't give me a good refernece, but she also stated she wouldnt hinder me from obtaining another job. I have been nick picked on clothes and my hair, I was also harrassed about talking to another co-worker in the dept, because my director could not talk to the other employee directly I had to be the liason, but I was walking a fine line by communicating with her. I have done everything in my ability towards my job. I have since been unable to find another job in the field that I was working in. My employer says there has been no references, but I am unable to believe that. 2 days prior to my incident she also gave 30 dyas to another employee but recanted when she gave me mine.

Re: Forceful Termination
Under Utah law you have no guarantee of employment unless you are employed under contract or are a civil service employee. You have the right to get unemployment compensation if you were terminated without cause. You may also have rights under the company's policies and procedures. You will need to talk to the human resource person, if there is one.
