Legal Question in Employment Law in Utah
Do I give up my home privacy with employee freebees?
I work for an internet service provider. As an employee perk they provide free ISP services for employees on their home computers. Employees in relevent departments have access to information about employee home internet activity. I found out recently that some people with this access have told employees in other departments (without their own access as far as I know)names of fellow employees that access pornography websites from home. If the named employees find out about this release of info, what kind, if any, legal exposure is there for the employer?

Re: Do I give up my home privacy with employee freebees?
It depends on the managment level of the employees involved, and whether any management of the ISP company knows or should know of the violations. It is a clear breach of privacy by the employees so exposed and the exposure of their identity could be highly damaging. It is possible the employees could sue for breach of privacy, intention infliction of emotional distress, and possible other violations, depending on the facts developed.
