After getting pay cheque company request payback

I quit a job and the company deposited my final cheque directly into my account and now two months later they have sent me a letter stating they over paid me and want me to repay a portion of it. Can they do this ?

Yes, if they made a mistake. You are only entitled to the amount of money you earned. You are not entitled to benefit from their clerical error.
