Legal Question in Employment Law in Utah

I process payroll for a third party of of Utah and they may need to terminate an employee for cause 'theft'. Could you provide me with the correct course of action to take including, investigation, suspension including termination and final pay.

In Utah you can dismiss for cause by documenting the cause and simply terminate the employee. The employee may apply for unemployment compensation, at which time the division will contact the employer and request information about the dismissal. IF cause is shown then the employee may be denied unemployment compensation. If there is no cause, then the employee gets unemployment compensation. The difference is what the employer's unemployment compensation account is charged: nothing for cause, and something for cause.
