Legal Question in Employment Law in Utah

Unlawful Firing

I submitted my 2 weeks written notice to my employers. Later that day I was told to leave immediately as I was no longer needed or wanted there. I had never had any complaints about my work and they have never done this to another employee. I was the only one in this small company who knew the job thoroughly and they had no replacement for me it seems it was more out of spite becauae I dared to accept employment with another company. Would this be considered unlawful firing and if so what kind of recourse do I have? I still do not have my final check and it is now 4 days.

Re: Unlawful Firing

It was not unlawful for them to terminate you immediately upon your resignation. However, the company must pay your salary within 48 hours, unless over a weekend. Call them for the check, if they do not pay you, call Utah Department of Employment Security.
