Legal Question in Employment Law in Utah

Women and Minorities

What percentage of minorities are required in the workplace?

The only full time permanent employees where I am working are 26 White males and 1 Black man. I am the only woman, (3 mos. Temp) and two , either Hispanic or American Indian, men who've been there two years Temp. Why won't they hire us as permanent employees so that we may have health benefits? And is it legal to just keep employees as tempories for years and years?

Re: Women and Minorities

There are no percentage requirements for employment of minorities. It is legal to keep temporaries for any period of time. The government does not force businesses to offer full time employment to temporaries. If you are not satisfied with your employment situation there, you can either find another job; seek additional training (often available at no cost through state employment agencies); or start your own business (funds are available for that, see the Small Business Administration). If you rely on the government to solve your employment problem you will not get much satisfaction. You will need to get creative and proactive to solve your own problem.
