Legal Question in Employment Law in Utah

I work for a cable installation company in Utah. Recently while at a residental customers house an accident occured while trying to replace some cable lines. I pulled on the old cable lines, that were wired by the customers washer and dryer, which caused the washer hose to come loose and leak water on their hardwood floors. It caused some warping to the floor. My employer is now making me foot the 1400.00 bill. When asked if it was covered under any sort of liability insurance they said no. I was wondering if they are allowed to make their employees foot all bills caused by accidents at job sites? or if they are required to file a claim? I have been told that they hate to file claims and will almost always make the employees pay for any damages occured at job sites.

You can sue your employer if you do not think you are responsible for the cost to repair the damage.
