Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Utah

Guests in my home

I am allowing my daughters boyfriend (from Colorado) to stay in my home while he and my daughter (she is staying also)are looking for work. He will arrive in a couple of days. How do I protect my rights as a homeowner. I only want them to stay a limited amount of time (30 days) and no longer. I will not be charging them rent, but will expect them to help with groceries and utilities.

I have considered having him sign an agreement that he will only be staying 30 days when he arrives. Will this protect me? Is there anything else I can do. One more piece of information - I co-own the house with my domestic partner.

Any information I can get as soon as possible would be very helpful.

Since you are not married, you are partners of a no-rent tenancy, and should indeed get a written agreement spelling out obligations and limitations.

You would still need to EVICT through an Unlawful Detainer if he did not agree to move out voluntarily, which would get uncomfortable, to say the least.
