I bougt a property from my brother in law. the property taxes and insuranc was includet in the payments.I resently found out that there was a taxlien on the property. the taxes were not payed since2002. my brother in law signed the property over to me.I payed the back taxes. today he informed me he took a lien out on my property for money he sayes i owe him. can he do this and how can i find out if he really did???????????

You should check with the county clerk - property records of the county where the land is located.

If he filed a lien against the property, which was properly deeded to you, and the lien is based upon monies not owed, then you need to sue him to remove the cloud on your title.
