Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Utah

I signed a lease agreement about two months ago and have been informed 2 weeks ago that my visa would not be renewed resulting in me having to leave the usa. The problem is that I paid an amount of $1100 to the lessor as deposit, the contract states that if i didn't occupy the room by 25 November $500 cleaning and deposit would be held, i called the operations director and read the passage of the contract that stated this and she simply replied, "oh well this was a mistake" mistake or no mistake this is a legally binding document, am I entitled to the remainder of $600??? Do i have any rights?? Is there anything i can do to get my money back?
