boss is trying to cop out

I had my own business doing tub and tile restoration.

My partner and I sold the buiness about 9 months ago,in that contract it was said that I--name removed---name removed--would work with the comoany that bought our for 1 years and then they wiould pay me 4,000 dollars.Well today they fired me,because I had some family problems last week and went home early and took the next day off.They also said that the last three jobs i did had compolained.I am usually the highest paid, and I am a independent contractor.

Can they do this, and get out of paying me what they owe me.

I had tell feb. 17 2003 to go.

The answer to your question is in the contract which you signed at the time of the sale for your services. That contract should have defined your obligations and the duties of the buying company to pay you. If there is no language in the contract, then hopefully there is some oral agreement (with witnesses) which can establish these facts. You may call to discuss this if you wish.
