Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Utah

Conflict of interes

If an employee is working for a Doctor's office as a Medical Assistant and begins doing legal interpretation on the side for monetary gain with a current patient that is being seen by the Doctor she works for, is this a conflict of interest?

Re: Conflict of interes

If the "legal interpretation" - whatever that means - does not pose a risk of increasing the potential liability for the doctor or to her income, then there is probably not a conflict of interest.

Your employer may make a decision on conflict of interest based on agreements which the employer beleives that you have agreed to, which are independent of legal interpretations. If in doubt, why not ask your employer? If you are very hesitant to ask your employer, then you probably already know the answer to your question.
