Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Utah

Can a Law firm ask to renegotiate their contract with a client? We have a contingency arrangement with a law firm (deposit of $10,000 plus contingency) for a probate estate matter. Now they would like to change the contract and add a reduced hourly fee as well, stating that the case is not as easy as they had first anticipated. Can they do this? If we do not agree, can they terminate our contract? Please, we need some advice. We are not wealthy and it was difficult enough coming up with the deposit. Thank you for any advice you can give.

A law firm can ask whatever they want, that does not mean you must agree. You are free to consider other attorneys.

You may call for a free consultation.
