Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Utah

Legal Fees

I was in the process of divorce, but before the hearing I asked to have the proceeding dismissed. I had paid the attorney up front, I feel very little worked was done on his part and a refund of some percent should be given back. The attorney stated because he had calendered my case he would not refund any portion. Is the standard practice in this profession?

If you beleive your attorney overbilled you, a complaint can be filed with the Utah State Bar, which will mediate the dispute. You can contact the bar at http://www.utahbar.org/public/fee_arbitration_service.html
