Legal Question in Legal Ethics in Utah

I quit but he won't pay me.

I was an independant cont. for a company and we had a contract. Nowhere in the contract does it state that I would not be paid for services if I quit. Now, the owner says that he doesn't have to pay me and that I owe him money. Can he do that?

There are a couple of ways to calculate the solution. First you may be entitled to the fair market value of any services you conveyed for the benefit of the company. Another way is for the company to hire someone to complete your job. You get the difference between the contract value and the cost to pay for completion. You would only have to pay him if somehow you caused him to lose money.
