Legal Question in Military Law in Utah
Military pension and benefits
I am getting a divorce in the state of Utah and my husband has been in the military for 20 plus years. we have been married for 17 years. How do I go about getting the retirement and other benefits I am entitled to?

Re: Military pension and benefits
It's not as simple as asking. Hopefully your divorce lawyer has some experience in dealing with military pension issues - if not, go the nearest military base and see a Legal Assistance officer. They will be able to confidentially ascertain your entitlements, which to some extent may involve State law as well. Additionally, some military benefits can be "traded" for other comperable things - I know I am sounding vague, but without taking a look at all of your specifics to include marital assets, it's impossible to be more specific.
Bottom line, speak to your Divorce lawyer first.
Good luck!
