Legal Question in Personal Injury in Utah

Minor injured in workplace

My 17 year old son was injured while at work, but not doing a task related to his job description. He is a receptionist whose job description is to answer the phone and take messages. He became bored at work one day and went to help the soda machine vender restock his machine. While assisting the vendor he was electricuted by exposed wires from inside the machine. Having no health insurance for my son, I would like to know what parties I could sue and what type of damages I could recover.

Re: Minor injured in workplace

Your son should file for a worker's compensation claim with the insurance carrier for his employer. He may be able to recover from the owner and/or manufacturer of the soda machine for being defective. Workmen's comp will cover lost wages and medical expenses. If he was severely injured he may qualify for some small additional damages. The owner/manufacturer of the soda machine may cover medical expenses, lost work, and possibly additional damages. Your chance of recovery depends of the exact facts. You are welcome to call for a free consultation. (801) 876-4422.
