Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Utah
Breaking a purchase contract
I received an offer on my home and lost my job two days before closing. The buyers were getting cold feet on the purchase and asked if I would release them from the contract. I was willing to do this because we want to move back to utah. At the last minute they decided they want the house. I feel they have played with my emotions and I want to know if I have any legal rights to cancel the contract.

Re: Breaking a purchase contract
If you "released" them from the contract and returned the earnest money, then it will take a court ruling to determine whether the contract is still enforceable, unless the release was in writing and signed by both parties. Generally without a written signed release, it is not valid. If they were never "released" you are still bound.
