Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Utah
building codes in utah
We bought our house 2.5 years ago and have since discovered several minor things wrong with it and just this week found a major problem with the foundation. The side walls were put directly on top of the joists and not directly attached to the foundation, which is the concrete walls that form the basement. Is this in compliance with the building codes? What can we do? FYI, we have learned that the contractor (father and son built house together - son was the seller/owner of the home) The contractor (father) has had his license revoked in another case.

You can sue for the costs to repair the house, and for the failure of the sellers to disclose the problems in the home, and are also probably entitled to your attorney fees.
