definition of ''written notice''

During a recent real estate purchase contract an appraisal was e-mailed to my brother from his lender. After receiving such notice, my brother then proceded to forward said e-mail to the seller of the property. In both cases would this classify as having received written notice?

Probably, unless there was some contract which required that notice be in some other form.
