Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Utah

Landlord ripping off clients

My husband and I moved out of an aparment because in the middle of winter they cut a whole in the wall that was six inches wide and 4 feet long. They were supposed to be putting in T-1 lines that would be in within a week. After two months they still hadn't fixed it. We complained to the complex. They didn't do anything. We gave them written notice that we were unsatisfied and were going to move at the end of the month. Now they are suing us for rent, when they damaged over $5,000 worth of furniture by exposing it to the cold winter (not to mention outragious heating bills). What can I do?

Re: Landlord ripping off clients

Counter sue for your damages, and include a complaint that they rendered the apartment "inhabitable" because of the hole in the wall.
