my personal property
My ex-boyfriend is in the military, we were living together before he was stationed over-sea. All my personal property and household items are stored with his in a storage space that the government provided. How can I legally assure that he will give it back to me, undamaged? Do I have any legal rights at all, since my name does not show up anywhere on the storage contract? What can I do?

You have few rights as an umnarried woman cohabitating with a man. If you were married you would have had equal rights. Now you have to prove that the goods are yours and that he does not have claim to them. This may be a big problem for you. You may have to go to court - and even then you will have a battle. He does not have a right to keep your goods, but you have to prove that they are yours first. Next time - don't give in so easy, demand a man who will respect you enough to marry you. Marriage is not only a sacred covenant between people, it is a legal contract which gives you legal rights to which you are entitled. Co-habitating is the exchange of sex for free.
