Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Utah

Child Molestation Question

I have a friend who was molestated at the age of eleven (she is now 15) in Salt Lake City, Utah. I was wondering what the statute of limitations is for this in Salt Lake City. Also, she is struggling with this issue, so I also wanted to know if she had to prosecute this man by law, or is she allowed to not prosecute him?

Re: Child Molestation Question

This should ABSOLUTELY be reported to the Child Protection Services, a division of the Department of Child and Family Services. She is most likely not the only victim of this perpetrator, and until he is stopped he will continue to ruin the lives of little children. Reporting this will help her understand that it was not her fault. She does not need to do anything more than make a report. The perpetrator should be prosecuted. If the perpetrator is an adult it will be handled differently than if the perpetrator is a minor.
