Legal Question in Sexual Harassment in Utah

wrongly accused of sexual harrassment

As a professional my husband contacted a business for some prices and initially asked to speak to a former coworker since he thought it would be easier. She hung up on him. He thought they were disconnected so called back only to be told by someone else that he was ''stalking'' and now they had proof. An officer subsequently showed up at his place of work and mentioned that there had been a lawsuit against the company he was formerly employed with and that she had named him as one of the harrassers. This was a shock to my husband who has since learned that no lawsuit has ever been filed or settled as she claimed. There is a police report now that accuses him of things that are false. There is a whole staff of personnel that have ill-conceived notions of him and he and our family are not allowed to do business there. The corporate office has told us that they have dealt with the gossiping internally but still would like us not to do business there. We are looking into getting an attorney. Would we have a case?

Re: wrongly accused of sexual harrassment

You may have a case for defamation. Your damages would be whatever you can prove that your husband lost in terms of money by not being able to do business there plus what ever damage to his reputation might cost him.
