Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Utah

Beneficiary of a trust

My grandmother passed away this summer. Before she had started to get sick she prepared her entire will and trust down to what color of flowers she wanted at her funeral. My mother told me that when she passed she left some money to a few of the grandchildren including me. Months go by and I felt wrong at first to ask for it. Three weeks ago I finally broke down and called my mom. My mom told me that she deposited my check into her account because I owed it to her. I became agry because instead of working out my supossed debt to her by showing me reciepts or proof, she just took my check. Is there anything I can do to get what is mine?

Re: Beneficiary of a trust

You have two options. First, you can file a complaint with the police for theft. This could result in criminal charges being filed against your Mom. Your second option is to file a civil complaint against your Mom for the amount she owes. She could then file a counterclaim for the amount she claims you owe her, and whoever owed less would get some money back.
