Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Utah

Grandfather's Estate

My grandfather passed away on January 6th. My aunt was appointed as his personal representative. 1/2 of his estate was left to our side of the family and the other 1/2 of the estate was left to my aunt. My aunt removed all of my grandmother's jewelry from their home, so none of us could even see it. She also let her oldest daughter have ''first pick'' of this jewelry that we have not even been allowed to see. We have been given no information regarding my grandfather's estate, other than that he has stocks, bonds, etc. and a life insurance policy. If an inventory has been filed with the courts, we have not seen it. We feel we should have been given information regarding his estate and we do not trust our aunt who was being supported by our grandfather, prior to his death. Is it out of line for us to ask for information regarding his estate? We also believe my aunt has been living off of his money and we would like to see supporting documents, i.e. bank statements, etc. Is it out of line for us to ask for this kind of information? Thank-you for your help.

Re: Grandfather's Estate

You are entitled to an accounting. The aunt is required to provide an accounting to the court. If you have information which supports her fraud, you can file suit in probate court to demand an accounting and to get her removed.
