Whether or not to use an irrevocable trust, a living trust, or some other mechanism is subject to the details of your individual case. Note: your money is not a marital asset, it is "premarital" and as long as you keep it separate from the marital funds, your new husband will not have a claim on it. However, estate planning is always a good idea and something which you should consider. The price quoted is not unreasonable for a simple estate plan, but make sure you are getting also a will, durable powers of attorney, living will, and all of the necessary information to fund and activate your new trust.

I do a substantial amount of estate planning, involving both revocable and irrevocable trusts, as well as other strategies and vehicles. I would like to ask some questions about how you want to use your money to determine if an irrevocable trust is the most appropriate vehicle.
